Here we have one of the long-timers in southern Brisbane, Thai Tasty Kitchen working with over 40 years of experience making affodable, wholeomse and straightforward Thai cuisine. This would definitely be one of those reliable choices when in need of something. Well, my big sister was staying over for a few days, and one night she had arranged delivery to the door for dinner. Going through all the options and finding something new, she settled on here. Just logging it into a food delivery service, it was all a manner of waiting for it to come and it did in an efficient manner.
This is getting a while ago as well, so some of the items might be incorrect or there could be a few that I am missing. Therefore, take what is here as a basic guideline for what was ordered and delivered to the door. Anyways, before going on the menu is more or less what is to be expected. There is a range of entrees to begin, and with these for once half orders are able to be gotten (i.e. instead of "4" spring rolls, "2" can be gotten). They also have soups, curries, the noodle and rice dishes, and salads along with several chef's suggestions (several of which have duck meat in them). Going onto the second page, they have a stir fried selection. If you have enough people, a banquet can be in order. In other words, nothing other than what you would expect is on the menu.
Getting back to what was ordered, one thing that is definitely not from vauge memory was a beef massamum curry. This is because whenever a family member of mine is there with Thai food, it is always a go-to order; they like it that much and I cannot blame them to be honest. This one was particularly good. It had all that was needed - tender cooked beef, solid potato that was well steamed and a thick curry that was flavoured brilliantly - never too spicy, akin to a thick beef gravy, and definitely with distinct tastes throughout. It still proves itself to be a mainstay with ordering Thai food for some time to come.
When it came to asking me what dish looked great to me, I was all for a "Pad Kee Mao" with pork, or as they called it - spicy fried noodles. Along with the choice of meat, these were flat rice noodles cooked with egg, fresh chili, onion, green beans and fresh basil. It was tasty. The pork meat was good, a well-chosen cut, plus the basil and chilli was pepper throughout the stir-fried noodles giving it a spicy and sharp taste. The beans were crunchy, the egg done well and mixed like an omelet plus it was a substantial serving.
This may or may not have been ordered, but I do recall a chicken curry getting there into the mix. It might have either been a red or chicken curry, but in honesty I would struggle to distinguish without looking it up what the key differences between the two are. Regardless, if it was a chicken curry, the meat was a tender thigh cut, with big bits of it thrown in a creamy base that had crisp vegetables. Again, one more reliable dish that is certain to be ordered a number more times.
I am glad to have another reliable Thai place within my local area. This one has been in the area longer than I have, so it is pretty impressive that somehow I had not gotten to it by now. Regardless, even among such a reliable cuisine with so many good options it still manages to showcase a number of notable strengths, with impressive quality, generous portions and simply being really tasty. Thai Tasty Kitchen definitely gets a good recommendation from me, and perhaps even some more visits to come in the future.
